Welcome to 14 Mile's frequently asked questions page. If your question is not answered here contact sales@14mile.com

Why are you named 14 Mile?
14 Mile is named after the creek where our company headquarters are located

What is subtractive rapid prototyping?
Subtractive rapid prototyping is a precision 4-axis CNC machine with precise software to create prototypes from many
production materials in the same time frame and cost range as traditional additive rapid prototyping technologies.

Can I choose a material not on the list?
All plastics and woods that we are aware of can be cut at 14 Mile. For metals we can only use non-ferrous metals, no
steel sorry.

Can I provide my own material?
Yes, however 14 Mile will not be responsible for any loss of material. We will also have to evaluate and adjust cutting
parameters therefore a quote can not be established until the cutting parameters are understood.

Are my designs safe with 14 Mile?
Yes, we do everything possible to protect our customers proprietary information. Your drawings and information are submitted
on a secure web-site. All designs are stored on 14 Mile databases and are saved for one year. When you submit your quote
you enter into a non-disclosure agreement with 14 Mile where we will not discuss your part with anyone not involved in your
project. 14 Mile takes no responsibility for any patent infringement, it is the buyers complete responsibility to ensure
their parts do not infringe upon any patents or trademarks.

I just need a model for show do you have materials for that?
This is fine if you choose a modeling material you will save money receive a part to use for an exact visual example.

What drawing formats do you except?
We except any CAD format from a standard CAD program such as Pro-E, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.
For faster quoting please submit drawings in a .stl format. This is the format used by our software to generate tool paths.

Do you accept a 2D drawing?
We do accept 2D drawings however a conversion fee to 3D will be required before we can quote your part.

Can you help with part design?
Unfortunately we can not. However, if you have a question regarding our design guidelines for the prototyping process we will
be more than happy to help.

Can you do hollow geometries?
Due to the nature of subtractive rapid prototyping hollow geometries can not be made in a single piece. This is one disadvantage
versus traditional rapid prototyping.

Can you do threaded holes?
We can do this, however, the hole must be a standard size and in a location where we can reach with a tap.
