Welcome to 14 Mile's design guidelines page. If you have any questions please e-mail engineering@14mile.com.
Due to the nature of our prototyping process there are some limitations:
For a single piece part the maximum size we can cut is 15"x19"x6".
However, some materials are only available in other sizes, please check
our
materials page for the maximum part size allowable in a material.
Absolutely no holes can be machined deeper than 4.3".
Each inside corner will have a radius. The size of this radius will be controlled by the depth of the hole being cut and the part finish selected.
Walls thinner than 0.020" are very fragile and may not survive the machining process.
Uniform wall thicknesses are not necessary.
Hollow shapes can not be made in a single piece, unlike additive rapid prototyping.
Part tolerances of +/-0.005" are typical in our process.
Through holes can be twice as deep as a blind hole. Hole depth depends on
the size of the hole, the smaller the hole the more shallow the hole
will be cut.
We are limited to length versus diameter ratios of end mills.
